Here is a video from UN Torture Victims Fund, about the rebuilding after torture.
Constats asbl is actually supported by this UN Fund.
Our association addresses refugee candidates and asylum seekers seeking for protection in Belgium, having suffered of torture and maltreatment in their home country. These people have to be in procedure and are living in Belgium.
The association aims to realize a medical and psychological assessment, and to produce, if necessary, a specific medical report concerning the tortures and their consequences. This is meant to be done at the request of juridical and social mediators, of medical-psychological services or of the victim itself.
We are working in the frame of the “Istanbul protocol”, which is the reference manual from the UNO that explains how to effectively investigate torture and other cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment, and how to assess and report the identified marks of any physical or psychological torture.
Actually, we are thirteen general practitioners endeavouring to come to these medical assessments. Given the growing number of requests, our processing time is currently 8 to 10 months.
If you want to refer us some patient, you can fill in our requestration form. You will find on this website the “medical evaluation request form”, which can be send to us by post, by fax of by email.

Note : Examinations and expertise proposed by the Constats association relate to asylum seekers who have been victim of torture and abuse in their home countries and who are currently in procedure. This does not apply to regularization for medical reasons; those reports have to be established by general practitioners and/or specialists who are taking care of the treatment of the patients.
